TWIST
TWIST is a 20 day summer program designed to help students gain social skills,
as well as gaining physical skills that will help them to become successful in
school and in sports. Students will internalize the 7 fundamental physical skills
of Project First Step®
as well as learn the correct steps to movement skill such as walking, throwing,
kicking, etc. These two areas will help with sport skills later in life and with
academic learning now. Students also learn about technology, math, science, literacy
and health lessons in a fun, game environment. Each child receives a morning and
afternoon snack as well as a USDA approved lunch. They also receive a water bottle
and shirt. SCORE SCORE is
the next step after TWIST. Once the child has learned the movement skills of TWIST,
they can now put them to use by learning about different sports (including strategy)
without the professional having to teach much skills, just reviewing it. Students
will also learn about math and science, technology, drug and alcohol prevention,
and also be given some insight into several different career choices that they
can make. During the entire program, the same social character skills will be
stressed to all students. OUT-OF-SCHOOL
TIME Out-of -School time refers to any portion of time that
the student is not in the classroom. Most often it is thought of as before and
after school programs, as well as summer time. Project First Step®
uses its knowledge of activities, social character skills and academic learning
to help programs aid their students in both gain social skills, learning skills,
and to feel better about themselves. Activities are presented to teachers as well
as teachers adding to the list of current activities.
